part any Engineer can expect from his/her Engineering career.
The probability of success in this exam being 0.0027 (as per the 2010 statistics), this exam is consider as difficult not only in India but also in the world.
IES job ladder and how to excel
Here is the ladder you need to climb in order to claim your IES job:
The exam comprises of 3 stages and a total of five exams.
● The first stage comprises of two exams. The paper-I involves GENERAL STUDIES AND ENGINEERING APTITUDE. This is common for all the branches and is of 2hrs duration
● The paper-II of this stage is a discipline-specific exam consisting of the engineering course, three hours duration and 300 marks. Only on the successful completion of this stage, the next stage is allowed.
The second stage also comprises of paper I and paper II, related strictly to the core engineering. Each of the two exams is of three hours’ duration and 300 maximum marks. Also, on having a clear pass in this stage only, the third stage will be allowed.
● The third stage is the most crucial stage of a failure in this stage will amount to a failure at the very near point of your success. It encapsulates a series of personality tests, comprising of 200 marks, and the time duration here, obviously no one cannot predict it.
So, you need to climb a good 1200 marks’ ladder in order to achieve your success in the IES job. One-third of the assigned marks for the question will be deducted for any wrong attempt. Good hard work is no doubt required, but following the given steps will definitely give you some

How to excel?
− Determination is the key
The Indian Engineering Services will be definitely hard to crack; all you need to have is an ample amount of determination that will prevent you from looking back at every step you take. You need to understand that this is your sole aim for now and you have to be the master of your field by emerging out successful in this exam.
− Don’t forget to prepare the Generals
A sum of 200 marks is allotted to general studies and aptitude part in the first stage. Make sure you clear it out with a good percentage so that it adds on to your confidence. Since it is not too hard to crack; you just need to suppress the urge of ignoring this field. Giving around half an
hour per day will definitely help to get through.
− Highlight the important
Make sure you study all that is relevant to the exam. Go through the previous years’ question paper and find out the most involved topics. Chalk out your notes in the most appropriate manner and hence lessen the difficulty level you need to go through. Also, find out the most
scoring subjects and the subjects you excel in.

− Groom up yourself
All knowledge and no defined personality may make you lose your IES job at a time you are the nearest to it. Develop your communication skills and work on your personality since the very beginning, since these are the fields which can’t be improve in a jiffy. Make sure you practice
